Folding Airbed

So, you’re looking for an airbed and you’re thinking that a folding air bed is for you. Well, good for you! In most cases these beds are more inviting and comfortable than other sleeping arrangements so you must be someone who wants your guests to feel as at home as possible and getting them up off of floor level is a step in the right direction. So let’s take a look at a few of the beds available on the market today as well as digging into their features and drawbacks.

The basics
The term folding air bed is kind of confusing at first glance so let’s take a quick look at what it really means. The folding refers to the frame or base of the bed more so than the actual airbed itself. The image off to the right is a perfect example of what I’m talking about. Many of these beds will include an actual air mattress as well as an airbed pump.  Almost every frame that I’ve run across is made of steel so durability will not be a concern and since hauling these monsters around is not exactly child’s play it’s convenient that all folding air beds include a carrying case at the least and a rolling bag at best.

Another point worth mentioning separately from everything else in this article is that if you do buy a folding air bed from separate from your air mattress be sure not to use a raised air mattress with the folding frame. This is an unstable combination that could damage the bed but more importantly could injure the user.

Best bet for price and comfort

Intex Comfort Fram Rising Comfort Queen Airbed

Intex Comfort Fram Rising Comfort Queen Airbed

I feel good about starting off with the Intex Comfort Frame Rising Comfort Queen Airbed. While this is a bit different than many of the other “folding frame air beds” it should not be discounted as it has many of the same desirable features and comes in at less than half the cost of many others on this list. It has consistently gotten above average reviews online and can be purchased here on Amazon.com.

It works by using a standard Intext airbed, which are among the best in the industry and then wraps a separate comfort frame around the first mattress. It’s a really great idea that adds stability and greater comfort. Having this separation also provides a great place to tuck in bed sheets, securely in the frame. Something else that’s nice about this model is that the outside “frame” has a headboard that you can use to prop yourself up as you watch television or read.

This bed comes with a pump that will fill the bed in around 6 minuets and a duffle bag that will allow you to store the bag easily.  Take a moment and check out the 30+ above average reviews this bed has gotten on Amazon.

Other models: Airbed head to head

Frontgate EZ Bed Airbed

Frontgate EZ Bed Airbed

The Wall Street Journal wrote an article on airbeds a while back and among their field of entrants a bed called the EZ Bed from Frontgate took the honors of the five models they reviewed. They noted that the downside of this model is the price and I have to agree there. At around $230 on Amazon it’s not cheap but it’s also a bed that it easy to setup, store and should last you a long time. It was reported that the twin model inflated in under a minute! So you know they’ve included a good pump as well. The bottom line of the Frontgate was that it felt most like a “real” bed. I think that says a lot.

Their second place model was the AeroBed Raised Pillowtop. This one comes in at a whopping $300 for the queen model. In my opinion AeroBed’s airbeds prices are inflated. They gained a name as their brand was sold on different television shopping channels but their reputation lives up to be no better than the rest of the pack. Based on the reviews I’ve seen around the web as well as what I’ve seen first hand I’d pass on this model. Have no doubt that it would be comfortable but the price tag alone should eliminate this model.

Folding Air Bed

Another model worth considering in this class is the insta-bed EZ Bed Air Mattress, Queen. This is a bed that will make your guest feel at home. Much like the Frontgate it is engineered so that opening the frame of the bed doesn’t take a great deal of effort. In fact it should be as easy as plugging the pump in and turning it on and from there the frame of the bed should just unfold as the bed fills with air! How do you like that?! This folding air bed also includes a compact wheeled storage case and a 1 year manufacturing warranty. You can find this bed online at Walmart right here for around $199.

The great outdoors
The last model I’m going to put in front of you is for those seeking comfort in the great outdoors. While you could use any folding airbed that I’ve mentioned earlier in this article outdoors this particular model is marketed by Coleman, who has a reputation for quality outdoor products.

Coleman Overnighter SpaceSave Folding Air Bed

Coleman Overnighter SpaceSave Folding Air Bed

The Coleman Overnighter SpaceSaver Airbed is a single sized folding airbed. The model is noted time again for its comfort and design and can fit a sleeper up to 6 feet tall. This airbed has a height of around 18 inches which allows storage underneath as well as some thoughtful hanging pockets at the head of the bed. The frame is made from lightweight aluminum and has a polyester cover and if you so choose the cot and air mattress can be used separately or together.

That’s it for the folding air bed. If you have any questions, like always be sure to let me know if the comments section or contact me directly if you feel more comfortable.

I am looking for an airbed frame for a double size mattress I already own. Queen is too big for the space available. Thank you

It’s strange but I’ve only seen frames for Queen airbeds so far. If I run across anything smaller I’ll be sure to email you.

I am looking for a replacement part to the folding airbed frame. It,s the round plastic that goes at the ends of the tubes. Any Idea where I can find it. My folding frame is from Quest.

Thank you
