Camping Mattress

by Airbed Guy on September 16, 2011

It’s finally time for your annual camping trip and you have everything needed to make it a great one. You have your tent, some blankets, and food packed and ready to go, but you feel like you’re missing something. No, not the marshmallows! You’re missing a camping mattress! Don’t try and man up and use a sleeping bag. It’s not as comfortable as a mattress, so don’t put yourself through that. You need something that can withstand the woods and be comfortable at the same time. You need something strong material that can be moved around easily. These are all basic wants when it comes to an inflatable mattress, but this is even more important when you go out camping.

Camping Mattress

Coleman makes camping comfort a breeze

I personally love going out camping when I’m taking a long trip. It is less expensive than getting a hotel room obviously, but it also has many other perks. Camping can provide a more peaceful time than going to a crowded hotel. I love being out on the road, experiencing nature and getting away from all the clutter during my day. I had a great camping mattress that allowed me to be comfortable while doing this. This mattress also packed up and could be pumped up easily. If you’re going to spend time outside you don’t want to be fiddling with your mattress all night. It’s important to find something you can maneuver easily.

When you’re looking at a Coleman air mattress you know what you’re getting. You’re getting a quality name brand mattress from a company that has been making them for over 100 years. One camping mattress they sell has really caught my eye. The Coleman Full Size Quickbed with 4D Pump and Wrap ‘N’ Roll Storage is a great choice when it comes to camping beds. This camping air mattress is great the outdoors because of the heavy-duty material it is made with. It also has an airtight system that is guaranteed not to leak any air.

Before you go out and buy a mattress make sure you know what you want out of your purchase. Outdoor mattresses can be great for camping if you buy the right one. They can also be a terrible experience if you don’t. This Coleman air mattress would make your camping experience a great one. After a great night’s sleep you’ll know you made the right choice.

Inflatable Furniture

by Airbed Guy on August 13, 2011

One of the more interesting furniture styles to look at out of everything available on the market is inflatable furniture. These days inflatables aren’t always the cheap models that you may have in mind. They are more comfortable, rugged and could even work for every day use. There are sofas, chairs, and even footstools. The variety is there for any shape and size object you are looking for to take on the road or fill up a room.

An inflatable sofa can have multiple purposes depending on its size. The Smart Air Beds Queen Size Inflatable Sofa Bed can be very comfortable for you as both a bed and sofa. Some of the basics of this inflatable include an AC pump and patch kit that are both included not to mention dual locking valves that help prevent leaks. This sofa has just under 40 inches of sitting area. The most exciting part about this inflatable sofa for me is its ability to turn itself into a bed. Don’t believe me? Check out the pictures included. Now THAT is something to get excited about.

From many reviews, it looks like this interchangeable inflatable sofa bed is not only a great sofa, but also a great bed. To buy something like this, it is important for it to be comfortable both ways. This seems to be the case here.

Inflatable Furniture

Have a seat... in the Ultra Lounge

A great smaller sized inflatable chair to add to your collection could be the Intex Ultra Lounge. This product comes with a lounge seat and stool. For me, as someone that loves watching a sporting event in peace, a cup holder is essential. Well, this piece of inflatable furniture has one. Sitting on this chair will be even more comfortable because you won’t have to worry about kicking over your drink or reaching over constantly for it.

This is a lightweight chair weighing in at just over 7 pounds. It doesn’t come with a pump, but if you are buying a chair you probably already have bed. And if this is not the case, then one can easily be found for cheap on Amazon.

Have an ultimate sports fan in the family? Then you could buy the Packers NFL Inflatable Air Chair for them. This chair comes with a foot pump and can quickly be inflated. The specs are 42 by 42 by 28 in inches. If you’re a fan of a team other than the Packers there are also many other sports teams to choose from.

There a plenty of options to choose from when it comes to inflatable furniture and these are just a few of many great options.

Elevated Air Bed

by Airbed Guy on July 10, 2011

Most air beds are around 8 inches in height, but this can cause problems for some people. For those with any lower half injuries or for those who are older, the standard height bed isn’t ideal. There is an extra need for a higher bed. This is where an elevated air bed comes in. These beds are around 20 inches in height, and can help with your concerns of lower beds.

elevated air bed

This is a hot little elevated air bed

Another great thing about a raised air bed is that they feel and look more like real beds. These beds can fit in better in rooms and won’t leave you in any awkward positions because you are so low to the ground. Let’s take a look at some great elevated air mattress options.

The Smart Air Beds Raised Comfort Top Flocked Queen Size Inflatable Mattress is a great option for those wanting to be high off of the ground. This bed is 20 inches high to go along with the normal queen size specs. It comes with a hand held pump and can support up to 600 pounds, so you shouldn’t have to worry about weight issues.

This elevated air bed is light in weight, only 20 pounds, so traveling with it is easy. Raised air bed reviews of this bed discuss a correct height measurement and how it is an easy bed to get out of bed in the morning. Its stiffness and comfort is obvious, and they didn’t have to inflate every night to be able to sleep on it.

Another great example of an elevated air mattress is the Smart Air Beds Platinum Full Raised Air Bed w/Built-In Pump and AirTrek Comfort Control. This mattress has the pump built into it. One great convenience of it is the ability to add or subtract air from the mattress to your desired level. This bed is 19 inches high, which is 1 inch shorter than the bed discussed above.

The top of the raised air bed is a soft flock which can be slept on. If you would rather sleep on sheets, there are some available for it. Finally, this bed holds its air well and can do so for at least a week.

As you already know, the art of buying an air mattress is knowing what you want. These are just two great options in the land of elevation.

AirbedGuy.com. We do the research, to help you make the right choice.

Welcome to, AirbedGuy.com, review of the aerobed queen size eco-light airbed and pump. During this review of the bed, I’m gonna show you what’s included inside the package, how to use the bed, including, inflating it, deflating it, and charging the battery. I’m also going to spend the night on the bed, and give you my opinion on what kind of night’s sleep I get, as well as the quality of the materials. This bed weights a paltry seven pounds when it’s deflated, and is pretty small, so this airbed could be considered pack worthy if you choose to do so. It’s made from TPU materials, which contain no thaylates, which means it’s easier on the environment. It comes with a ni-cad pump, that once fully charged, is good for five to seven uses. It has an oversize valve that makes inflation and deflation fast and easy. It comes with a carrying case, and the pump and valve are backed by a two year express warranty.

This is the nickel-cadmium battery that’s included with the bed. Make sure on your first charge that you give it at least twenty-four hours prior to its first use, and about twelve hours for each charge after that. You’re gonna get about five or six uses out of each charge. So now I’ve given you an overview of the features, we’ve checked the contents of the box, and we’ve charged the pump batteries, so now let’s find out what really matters. Is this bed comfortable, and is it easy to use? Inflating this airbed is a snap. All you do is unscrew the top, insert the pump, and turn it on. [whining] Holy smokes. It only took about a minute and a half, to inflate this bed all the way. I love that. That’s gonna make setup, a lot easier and a lot faster. Let’s hope that it’s as comfortable as it is easy to use. Ah.

[music]

It’s nice and firm. Let’s see, if it’s strong on the edges. It’s very strong on the edges, you don’t have any risk of rolling off or anything like that. There’s plenty of room for, for two people on here. Man. I gotta tell you. I really love this bed. Alright. So, I’m gonna sleep on it tonight, and I’ll get, I’ll give you my impressions in the morning.

Alright. Pardon the attire, I’m about to go for a run. But, I had a really great night’s sleep. I don’t think I moved, the entire, night. Um, this is a, a really great bed, you know sometimes, sometimes on the, on an airbed you can get a really, really sweaty feeling, up a, up against the PVC. But this, TPV, material, didn’t give me that, kinda icky feeling that you can get sometimes. Um. I don’t think it lost any pressure during the night which is, also fantastic, it speaks to the quality of the bed. So let’s see how easy it is to breakdown and deflate this bed, and then we’ll be done. Okay. To deflate the bed, what you’re gonna need to do is unscrew the cap, push this end, [background noise] let the air come out, and you can also, get more air out by using the pump. Well, that took about a minute and a half to deflate. About the same amount of time it took to inflate, which is fantastic. So, overall. I think I’m gonna give this bed, uh, probably nine out of ten stars. This is a, been a tremendous bed, easy to set up, easy to store away. But most importantly, it’s very comfortable, uh. Eco-friendly, and um, that’s it. For the aerobed, queen size camping air mattress.

Intex Camping Air Mattress

Here is a quick video review of the Intex Camping Air Mattress. How do you like the new video into? Let me know.

Video Transcript

AirbedGuy.com. we do the research, to help you make the right choice.

Welcome to, AirbedGuy.com for a review of the full-size Intex camping air mattress. This full-size air mattress weighs about fourteen pounds, has a heavy gauge vinyl on the bottom which is gonna make it more puncture resistant, and a flock top, which is gonna keep your sheet in place while you’re sleeping. It is kinda heavy, so the weight is not negligible if you’re gonna be hiking any distance, but it does make it, suited for car camping and things like that. Let’s blow it up, and see how long it’s gonna take to set it up, how comfortable it is, and then, let’s break it down. As I mentioned, this internal pump is battery powered. It uses, C batteries. Takes six of them. It’s easy to install, let’s go ahead and pump this baby up. [whining] [sigh] So, the bed did take about seven minutes to fill up, and that was on new C batteries. That’s not too bad, and there’s always a lot of stuff to do around the campsite so I don’t think you’ll notice. This is a single-height bed, so anyone who’s older or has flexibility problems, might have a little trouble getting down this low. Um, the battery powered pump seems to have, gotten the bed pretty firm. Um, let’s, see how it feels. Rrr. Feels good I don’t feel any uh, pressure, points or anything like that. It’s uh, the nice even feeling. If I get over to the edge. I don’t get the, sense that I’m gonna, roll off the bed or anything like that. So it seems like it’s a, a good sound airbed. The sheets, are hanging on really tight with the flocking that they’ve put on here. So it looks that this is gonna be a good solid bed. I’m gonna give it a, few hours to sit here, and then I’m gonna sleep on it tonight and I’ll let you know what I think about it in the morning.

Okay. Well, that was a good night’s sleep. It was no, noticeable loss of air. So I stayed off the floor all night. It’s a, comfortable bed. Um, there’s, easily room for two people on there, like I, like I said, it’s, an actual full-size bed, full-size sheets are gonna fit on it. I guess now let’s take the time to uh, see, see how long it takes to deflate, and, put away, and. Maybe some final words at the end. So, that took about, four and a half close to five, minutes to deflate, which is about half the time, that it took to fill the bed up. It’s really efficient, at getting, all the air out of the bed, which um, indicates that it’s a strong pump inside, so, I’m really impressed with that. Uh, as you can see, it’s, easy to fold up, it’s gonna be easy to put back in whatever bag you have. Some of these come with a carrying case, others don’t. This one didn’t. Um, but, all that said, the deflated, put away, um, I can recommend, the Intex camping air mattress, full-size bed with, with confidence. It seems like it’s gonna be a good solid bed, and, Intex has a warranty that, that’s good as far as airbeds go, I think it’s the one year. So, that’s it for the full-size, Intex camping air mattress.

Cheap Airbed

by Airbed Guy on June 8, 2011

Most people are tempted to buy a cheap airbed when they’re on Amazon, and who can blame them? One of the best reasons to shop online is how easy it is to find the cheapest selections, but beware. When it comes to a cheap air mattress though, cheap doesn’t always mean quality.

Cheap Air Bed

This is a good inexpensive airbed

One of the first things you should do when buying a cheap air bed is looking at the reviews of the bed. These should immediately get rid of options that are clearly not quality. Reviews can tell you about some of the same things you are looking for. Did this person get a good night’s sleep? Could they sleep in any position they pleased? These are all things that are worthy of reading about before purchasing your airbed.

Some of the cheaper styles of airbeds have little or no material on top of the mattress. This can cause a sweaty experience and a very uncomfortable night. Another cause of discomfort while sleeping on airbed can be caused by the construction of it.

The best style is the I-beam construction. It gives plenty of support throughout the mattress to keep it stable. Without a stable bed, the edges can give way and cause you to roll off the bed at night. Comfort top construction is another great style because of the memory foam provided. Sometimes mattresses will take in the temperature of the room causing for a cold night, but with this memory foam it will be much warmer.

One cheap airbed I found on Amazon that had some good reviews and specs was the Intex Classic Downy Full Airbed. This airbed sells for under 20$ and has some good features to it. This full size mattress can hold up to 600 pounds all while being 8.75 inches off of the ground. The top of the mattress has a flocked surface. This gives it a texture to it that will not let bedding slide side to side.

The only con I can see is that no pump comes with it. Airbed pumps can be bought for fairly cheap, somewhere around 15$. To save this extra money you can use your vacuum cleaner and blow it up that way. From many reviews, it looks like this cheap air mattress can hold its level of air for over a week at least. One person has even used this bed for 3 months without having to inflate again!

Cheap airbeds are not ideal for the common customer. If you must buy a cheap air bed then know the basics so you won’t regret your decision.

Blow up mattress

by Airbed Guy on May 4, 2011

Move aside pull out couches. Blow up mattresses are the popular way to sleep among travelers looking for an extra bed these days. The convenience of picking up your bed and taking it wherever you go is appealing to many.

Intext blow up mattress

Blow Up Mattress by Intext

One of the cheaper options of blow up air mattress that is on Amazon is the Intex Raised Downy Queen Airbed with Built-in Electric Pump. This blow up mattress is raised 22 inches off the ground to go with a 60 by 22 frame. The extra height off the ground gives a nice feel for those who don’t like to be the typical 8 inches from the floor. The electric pump is built into this bed and can go multiple nights without having to pump new air into it. Many reviews of having no leaks when using these blow up beds make this a top-notch choice.

coleman blow up mattress

Blow up Mattress by Coleman airbeds

If you are looking for a bed that is multi-dimensional than the Coleman 4-In-1 Quickbed is the bed for you. This bed acts as 4 types of beds (hence the title). These different styles include king, two twin beds, and one twin stacked on top of each other. The ability to have multiple options with this blow up mattress is what makes it so unique.

There is something you must know though if you buy this product. It does not come with a pump, but don’t let that change your mind as the applicable pump is only around 15-20$ on Amazon. With the low price of the Coleman 4-In-1, buying a pump to go with it, it is still considered to be a great deal.

One style of blow up mattress that I have not seen to often is the toddler blow up mattress. A very appealing version of one I found on Amazon was the AeroBed Sleep Tight Inflatable Bed for Kids. The specs for this bed are clearly made for a toddler. The mattress is 50 by 25 with it being 10 inches off of the ground. Also built into the mattress is a safety type railing that is four inches higher than the rest of the mattress. This is perfect for keeping your toddler safe.

This AeroBed mattress even comes with a star and moon cover for your toddler to lie on. This makes it easy on you so you don’t have to worry about finding an appropriate cover for this blow up air mattress.

I reviewed a couple of very unique mattresses that I have found to be very useful and practical. Both look to be top notch for their target audience.

Double Air Mattress

by Airbed Guy on April 26, 2011

Double Air MattressIf you’ve spent the night on both a regular height air mattress as well as a double air mattress then you KNOW that the experience is completely different and in my opinion going for the extra height for those airbeds that you plan on using around the house is worth the effort.

While what constitutes a double air mattress is not a standard as you would find a standard queen size or king size airbed but what I consider to be the minimum height for a double air airbed is around 16 inches. That extra height of off of the floor for whatever reason just has more dignity than sleeping just a few inches off of floor level. Maybe it’s an age thing and you can laugh if you’d like but until you’ve been put in a situation where you can compare the two just take my word for it. Bigger is better.

So out there in the big old airbed world the double air mattress is getting a lot more interest than it once has. You’ll even find that the bulk of what is being produced and sold are the taller beds. Just browse Amazon.com or any other retailer that sells indoor airbeds and you can see for yourself.

Now the one area where there is exception is for the camping air mattress. As many of these airbeds need to be very light and highly portable the double high mattress adds too much bulk and weight to be practical.

Other benefits
Now aside from aesthetic benefits and comfort there are some solid reasons why you should choose a double air mattress for your next airbed. Ease of use. If you have guests that are a little older then this extra height will make getting onto and off of the bed MUCH easier and they’ll thank you for it I promise. Another huge benefit over cots and other “fixed” type beds is that these will always be adjustable beds, and that allows the bed to be more comfortable for a wider range of people.

Double air mattresses also usually are marketed towards higher end consumers. As such they usually have better flocking on the bed top and sides and even sometimes a foam top which is among the best in portable air bed comforts.

Here are a few really good beds to consider:

Airbed Guy Video #2

by Airbed Guy on April 22, 2011

This is my video demonstration of the Mainstays elevated queen sized airbed. I was really impressed with this bed. It inflates quickly, holds air well, sleeps comfortably and folds up easily. It’s worth noting that Mainstays seems to just be the marketing company and Intex is the manufacturer. No worries there, especially with this bed. Buy with confidence. It’s a great airbed.

Video Transcript

Today we’re going to be looking at the Mainstays queen-size elevated airbed, with the built-in electric pump. Let’s see what we find out. As with all the airbeds, you want to be kinda careful when you’re opening them, cause there is an airbed inside, but this one there’s just a little bit of tape here, so, let’s, let’s get rid of that, open it up, and. See what’s in there. Something interesting. As I started looking at the instructions for the Mainstays airbed, I realized that this is actually an Intex manufacturer bed. Mainstays is just a marketing company. If you look at the instruction there you can see Intec’s on the internal pump, so just go forward with that in mind. Let’s weigh this airbed and see how much. It’s gonna take out of your back to get it down the stairs or out of the closet. It’s a little over eighteen pounds, which including the pump, that’s not too bad. It’s on par, with everything else I’ve seen. So let’s, unpack it, also be, mindful, [thumping] that it does come with a bag, that’s really useful when you’re trying to stow it away and carry it around places. I really like these internal pumps. They’re really convenient. You don’t have to worry about forgetting it, plugging anything else in other than the bed itself. The cord in this one is stored right in here. What’s also really cool, is while you can inflate the pump, quickly this way, you can also, do a quick, deflate by doing the opposite way. That’s much easier than a lot of the other airbeds that I’m seeing nowadays, so, that’s a, a feature that you’ll really appreciate in this airbed. Let’s, plug it in and see how long it takes to fill this bag up. I gotta tell you. I’m really liking this bed a lot so far.

It took about two minutes to fill up from, from what I just filmed there. After the camera went off I put about ten more seconds into it. you want to fill it up until the top, domes up just a little bit, [thumping] and then you have a great firm just like you do right now. The, top, sides, and top, feel about average. You’re gonna want at least a sheet in-between you and the, the PVC vinyl that’s beneath it. Otherwise you’re gonna have a really cold night or a really sweaty night, one or the other. Neither one sounds good to me. Um. So, I guess I’m gonna be spending the night on this thing, tonight, um, my wife hates the test nights. She can’t get enough of the airbed guy, just like I’m sure you guys can’t. So uh, tomorrow morning when I wake up, I’ll let you know how it went.

Oh. Oh, that’s nice. So I didn’t mention that before, but this bed has about a six hundred pound capacity. So you and your heavyweight lover can have a full night’s sleep on this without a problem. I had a great night’s sleep last night. Not a single problem, I don’t think it lost any air, I didn’t have to touch the pump. If I were to sleep on it tomorrow night I don’t think I’d have to touch, the pump then either. Um, this is a really good bed, let’s take a little time, deflate it, see how much time it takes to pack it up cause that’s usually a little bit longer, then, we’ll do a final review. Now’s a really good time to talk about this, internal air pump one more time, before we deflate the bed. Uh, to deflate it you’re just gonna turn it counterclockwise, [background noise]. It’s really cool though. You can also, turn the pump on, [squealing] it’s really going to speed up the process. Let’s see how long it takes to to deflate.

Holy crap. This was an easy bed to put up. It slept comfortable, it was easy to inflate, easy to stow away, looks like it’s gonna be a little bit more difficult to fit into the bag, but it provided a great night sleep it was really firm, if you’re gonna use it for multiple nights I wouldn’t worry about it. Something that I’ll feel comfortable putting my guests on. That’s my full review for AirbedGuy.com. Thanks.

Wenzel Air Bed

by Airbed Guy on April 19, 2011

Wenzel is a company that’s been around for a really long time. More than 120 years actually but to many their company name is still unknown. They specialize in creating modern tools that help families reconnect in the outdoors in comfort and relative ease.

Additionally they have taken some of the technology that provides comofrt outdoors and made some pretty cool products for the home as well. Lets take a look at a few of each but know this when considering any Wenzel product.

Their products range from tents, to camping mattress, airbed and sleeping bags but more importantly their products are consistently well recieved. Let’s take a look at a few of their biggest airbed and camping air mattress sellers.

The great indoors:
Wenzel air bedWe’re going to have a look at the Wenzel Insta-Bed Queen Raised Sure Grip Borrom with Built-in Pump first. This is a great way to welcome your guests with a fantastic night’s sleep. It’s an airbed that is the same height as a regular mattress. I’ve read a number of reports indicating that sleepers have many nights of sleep on this air mattress without needing to refill the bed… at all!

It inflates in about 90 seconds with the AC pump that is built into the bed and to make it even better the pump works for quick deflation as well. The top of the airbed is flocked which will keep your sheets in place and the mattress utilizes a flex coil construction that keeps the whole job stable and firm no matter where you choose to sleep.  This can also come in handy if you decide to get really active on the bed :) . The bed has a one year warranty and also comes with a shoulder strap bag to make carrying it to the car or around the house MUCH easier.

This bed is certainly on par with the aerobeds but when the price is taken into consideration I think it beats many aerobed models. Check it out here.

The great outdoors:

Wenzel AirbedWhile Wenzel provides many sleeping pads and closed cell mattresses than enable long distance and serious outdoor adventures they also provide something for the rest of us that like to pull up to a camping location with our families and spend our nights in comfort and our days exploring.

If that sounds like what you like to do then the Wenzel Twin Size Insta Bed Airbed with Built-In Pump is going to be right on the money. The name pretty much says it all on this one but the features worth mentioning is the 9″ gusset, flocked top, and a built-in battery pump (operates on 4″D” batteries). The twin size will fit easily in most family tents and in some cases would probably feel at home in the back of an SUV. For around $40 this bed a really good deal and Amazon shows that it has the customer reviews to back it up.

Well, that is the ultra quick low-down on the Wenzel and their airbed. As I noted, they do make an entire line of beds including one of the largest airbeds I’ve ever seen!!!

If you have one or have any questions please let me know in the comments. Thanks!
